Purina® Pets for Seniors - Learn More

What it is:

Purina® Pets for Seniors partners with participating humane organizations to offer adoption assistance‚ in many cases free of charge‚ to qualified senior citizens (age 60 and over).

Studies have shown that pet companionship actually improves senior citizen health and outlook on life. Lowered blood pressure and a reduction in stress are among the potential benefits of pet ownership. In addition‚ seniors with pets report feeling happier and safer. The program helps to cover the cost of adoption fees and provides product information‚ coupons‚ and a pet care booklet.

How it works:

Upon receipt of the application/survey‚ a shelter representative will contact qualifying seniors to discuss the program. Subsequent adoption procedures will vary among humane organizations‚ taking into account specific program requirements.

Each qualifying senior will be asked to review information that outlines the responsibilities and benefits of pet ownership.

Following the review‚ if the senior meets the shelter’s normal adoption screening requirements‚ the senior may adopt a puppy‚ dog‚ kitten‚ or cat‚ depending upon the availability of suitable animals. Purina® Pets for Seniors is administered by local participating humane organizations and is funded through a partnership with the humane organization‚ Purina® Pets for People™ Fund‚ and Nestlé Purina PetCare Company.
